Lauren
I’m Lauren and I’ve been a volunteer at Harrogate Sibling Group since February 2024! I began working in early years in 2015 and have gained my foundation degree in early childhood studies. I’m also currently studying for my top up degree, to get my full BA (Hons) in early childhood. I have experience of both early years and primary settings and most recently was a teaching assistant and managed a wraparound care and holiday club scheme for a school in north Leeds, before moving into teaching education, social work and childhood psychology for access to higher education courses. I wanted to support the sibling group to help provide a safe and fun space for children with a sibling with an additional need. It’s been lovely to see the impact the group is having for both the children and their families. Supporting the sibling group has been very rewarding, getting to know all the children and watch the the friendships they are making, whilst providing lots of fun, exciting and enriching experiences. I’m so excited to see what’s in store for the future of the Sibling Group!

Jade
I’m Jade and I’m a 27 years old, I have 2 nephews one of which has Lennox Gastaut syndrome, he’s non verbal and has severe learning disabilities. My nephew, Archie, helped me find my career path and I am now a teaching assistant in an SEN school. This is where I first heard about the sibling group as I work in the same class as Grace’s brother, Oscar. I love volunteering with the sibling group as I can see first hand how much this group supports siblings and encourages them to make healthy relationships and have fun with others who understand them. Watching the siblings get more and more confident with each group is so lovely to see and the friendships that they are forming with one another. It’s also a great opportunity for parents to meet and share experiences too!

Hannah
Hannah has first-hand experience of being a sibling. Her brother has autism and complex needs. Hannah currently works in the NHS and for a family business. She wanted to support the sibling group to give siblings like herself some well deserved respite and most importantly have fun!
